Blue Circle, 1985

Installation 9 objects approx. 35 x 55 x 45 cm each Blue rice paper mounted on cardboard Total dimensions approx. 340 x 340 x 50 cm
Blue Circle comprises nine conglomerations of different-sized, dark-blue cubes, arranged in a circle on a white wall. Although the individual formations are not identical, they appear to be related to each other—like transformations of one and the same basic material. Their expansive three-dimensionality suggests heaviness, though in reality they are made of lightweight rice paper. The impression arises that these abstract formations are floating in front of the wall, as if held together by an invisible force field at their center. They conjure up associations with a clock or revolving satellites. Here we have come full circle, back to the artist’s interest in global connections that transcend space and time. (Jürgen Tabor)
