Video-Installation, 1972

Closed-circuit video installation Video camera with tripod, video recorder (Open Reel, (Open Reel, "Japanese Standard 1 system"), Open Reel tape, video monitor, semitransparent mirror in metal frame (56 x 70 cm), Total dimensions approx. 200 x 150 cm
Behind a semi-transparent mirror stands an ”experimental set-up” consisting of a TV monitor, a video camera, and an open-reel videotape player (Japan Standard 1), which interact with their own reflection and the viewers. The filmed picture (from the transparent side of the mirror) is played on the monitor in real time, and simultaneously recorded on the video recorder. A manifold multiplication results: the technical devices and/or the viewers and their reflection, the live transmission of the technical devices and/or the viewers on the monitor and the video film of them. The documentary character of the running open-reel player counteracts the representation of reality by means of the self-reproducing medium. (Sabine Breitwieser/Doris Leutgeb)
