Peter Friedl

Biographie

Peter Friedl was born in Oberneukirchen, Austria in 1960. In his conceptual mode of operation he makes use of extremely diverse medial and stylistic formats. Friedl is interested in political, aesthetic, and cultural power systems. His most important exhibitions have taken place at Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin (1996), Neue Galerie am Landesmuseum Joanneum Graz (1999), Frankfurter Kunstverein and Witte de With, Rotterdam (2004), MACBA Barcelona (2006), Extra City Kunsthal, Antwerpen (2008), and the Salzburger Kunstverein (2012). In addition, Friedl participated in the documenta X (1997), 48th Venice Biennial (1999), Documenta 12 (2007), and Taipei Biennial (2012). In 2010 Sternberg Press published a selection of his writings called Secret Modernity: Selected Texts and Interviews 1981-2009. He lives and works in Berlin or "in situ."
