Friedl Kubelka vom Gröller

Neuffer's Gegenstände, 1972

Film, 16mm, 16 frames/sec, black and white, silent, 6 min
Filmed at 24 frames per second using the filmmaker’s own Eumig C 16, whose winding mechanism henceforth asserts its own particular rhythm within the films. Artwork commissioned for a lover. Like the affluent bourgeoisie of art history, described through their cultivated surroundings, we see a man through the slow portraits of some of his collected items: a weapon, a silver cup, the cold surface of a silver tray, statues, marble walls, wood ceilings. The camera remains for a long time in front of a painting (by J. Stoitzner). The end of the film is accentuated by the body of a naked woman (the filmmaker herself). Thus she too takes her place among Neuffer’s objects.
