Richard Landry

Biographie

Richard Landry was born in Cecilia, Louisiana in 1938 and studied music at the University of Southwestern Louisiana. He is a composer, musician, and artist. From 1968, Landry was occupied with experimental, minimal, and process-based music, which he became familiar with in his environment at the time—the Post-minimal and Conceptual art scenes in New York. From 1968 to 1981 he was a member of Philip Glass’s ensemble. He worked with Robert Rauschenberg, the Trisha Brown Dance Company, Laurie Anderson, and Robert Wilson and cooperated with artists such as Keith Sonnier, Lawrence Weiner, and Richard Serra. Since 1970, Landry has given solo concerts as a tenor saxophonist and developed his own music performances, films, and videos. He has performed in important concert halls in the U.S. and Europe, as well as at galleries, museums, and major exhibitions, including the Documenta 6 (1977). Richard Landry lives and works in Lafayette, Louisiana.
