Willem Oorebeek

Biographie

Willem Oorebeek was born in Pernis, The Netherlands in 1953 and studied painting, graphic reproduction, and drawing at the Akademie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Rotterdam. He works with various reproduction techniques and in doing so deals intensively with the transformation of printed information by means of mirroring, projection, and display. Oorebeek has had various teaching jobs, for example, at Jaan van Eyck Akademie in Maastricht from 1989 to 1996. He has been a lecturer at the artist residency program of WIELS in Brussels since 2008, and he had a lectureship at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna in 2012. Together with Aernout Mik he designed the Dutch pavilion for the 47th Venice Biennial (1997). He has also published numerous artist’s books, including Willem Oorebeek. MetZonderKOP (2005) and Joëlle Tuerlinckx, Willem Oorebeek. BILD, oder MIT DEM FUSS IN DER REALITÄT (2004). Most noteworthy among his numerous monographic exhibitions were those at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam (1988, 2001), Witte de With, Rotterdam (1994), and Culturgest, Lisbon (2008). The artist lives and works in Brussels since 1994.
