Andrei Ujica

Biographie

Andrei Ujica, born in Timisoara, Romania in 1951, is an author, director, and screenwriter. He studied literature in Timisoara, Bucharest, and Heidelberg. Since 1968 he has published prose, lyrics, and essays and has translated texts and poems by the German-based action group Banat into Romanian. Since 1990, Ujica has devoted himself almost exclusively to film. He has developed projects, such as Videograms of a Revolution (1992) with Harun Farocki, which deals with the relationship of the political powers and media in Europe at the end of the Cold War. Since 2001, Ujica has been a film professor at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design, in 2002 he was the founding director of the ZKM’s film institute, and is still director there. In 2010, Ujica was invited to the 63rd film festival in Cannes with his work Autobiografia lui Nicolae Ceaucescu. Andrei Ujica lives and works in Berlin and Karlsruhe.
