Zobernig’s work (like that of EXPORT, Graham, Genzken, and West) is also one of main focuses of the Generali Foundation Collection. Like some of the other artists, Zobernig has also designed printed matter for exhibitions, the last time in 1995 when he created the poster for the opening of the new building. His characteristically reductive design picks up a basic idea from that poster. What we see is the register mark used in printing to check the alignment of all four colors. This symbol is ordinarily outside the actual layout and is cut off in the final print. Here the register mark acquires an emblematic function which Zobernig paraphrases by making the alignment inexact by a few millimeters.
