The volume accompanies and contextualizes the exhibition of the same name shown in 1998, for which the Generali Foundation commissioned Pichler’s Prototypes to be restored. The group of works entitledPrototypes dating from the late 1960s were shown, among others, at documenta 4 in Kassel. The Prototypes represent an erratic block in Pichler’s oeuvre. More architectonic environments than objects poised at the interface of architecture, design, and sculpture, they were produced against the backdrop of the social transformations and political events of the 1960s.
