DAS FEINE UND DAS FEINE

Von Nüssen lernen. Adriaen Coorte und die Kunst des Kleinen
Lecture, 6 p.m.

The lecture focuses on a celebration of the dignity of the small and inconspicuous in art. Revolving around a painting of two nuts by the Dutch still-life artist Adriaen Coorte (ca. 1665–ca. 1707), it offers descriptions and comparative analyses of pictures and reflections on the subject and its history to promote an interpretation that investigates the particular visibility of small things in as concrete and unsentimental terms as possible. A central point of interest is a peculiar form of perceptive affection that seems to be essential also to the study of Ulrike Grossarth’s oeuvre.

Leidenschaft und Ostinato. Delirien, Glücksmomente, Trauer, Liebeswahnsinn, Tränen, Jubel,
Loops in neuen Interpretationen

A DJ night with baroque music, 7–11 p.m.

Michael Glasmeier, Art historian, Curator

After the lecture, a DJ set will put those affects front and center that have the power to touch us with their immediacy despite their rhetorical and artificial quality, a specialty of the baroque. It also explores the role of rhythm, repetition, variation, and the loop, the defining features of this music between lamentation and ecstatic dance.
