Lines & Gestures

Opening: July 29, 2017, 11 a.m.
Duration: July 29, 2017—November 5, 2017
Venue: Museum der Moderne Salzburg, Rupertinum, Generali Foundation Study Center

The exhibition Lines & Gestures presents a selection of rare graphic art editions, publications, and photographs from the holdings of the museum and the Generali Foundation Collection. The focus is on lines as traces of graphical and performative gestures.

When a point is set in motion, it becomes a line, the trace of an act. This creative process has spawned an almost inexhaustibly rich historical diversity of visual phenomena. The works shown in the exhibition represent exemplary engagements with the potential of the line on paper. The spectrum ranges from minimalist forms to extravagant gestures and virtuoso specimens of the incapacity to control Lines & Gestures.

The Generali Foundation Study Center in the Rupertinum invites to discover modern and contemporary art. The reading room and the Franz West-Lounge located in the floor above, both looking out onto the festival district, offer plenty of scope for researching themes ranging from modernism to contemporary art. In addition to the library with some 42 000 volumes of exhibition catalogues and books on art history and theory, art lovers can also browse through international art magazines and a rich array of artists' books. The Generali Foundation's collection of more than fivehundred art videos can also be exclusively viewed here.
